The Great Rift Valley
Naivasha was my first stop but not before I could once again enjoy the view over The Great Rift Valley. I am always quiet with the knowledge that in many years this will be a new ocean. This is the largest valley in the world with continuous tectonic shifts that will have a catastrophic impact on the country and its inhabitants. Naivasha was non discript but you come here for the nature. Lots of water especially. The lakes of the Rift Valley have been gradually flooding since the early 2010s. This environmental disaster has displaced hundreds of thousands of people. Climate change of course and in this way we help nature to form an ocean here faster, Here in Naivasha there are only a few places where you can get to the water because of the many hotels and resorts that claim the land with fences and the enormous flower nurseries that take up a lot of space. The Dutch are behind this, that can't be missed. And a football flag like that betrays that too. At the fluorescent green crater lake, which was black today by the way, quite a lot of wildlife could be seen that was startled by such a late visitor. And I had already seen so many birds on this somewhat drizzly day.
The Great Rift Valley
Naivasha werd mijn eerste stop maar niet voordat ik weer eens kon genieten van het uitzicht over The Great Rift Valley. Altijd weer even stil met die wetenschap dat dit over tig jaren een nieuwe oceaan zal zijn. Dit is de grootste vallei ter wereld met voortdurende tektonische verschuivingen die een catastrofale impact zullen hebben op het land en zijn bewoners. Naivasha was non discript maar je komt hier voor de natuur. Veel water vooral. De meren van de Riftvallei overstromen geleidelijk sinds het begin van de jaren 2010. Deze milieuramp heeft honderdduizenden mensen ontheemd. Klimaatverandering natuurlijk en zo helpen wij de natuur om hier sneller een oceaan te vormen, Hier in Naivasha zijn er maar weinig plekken waar je bij het water kunt komen door de vele hotels en resorts die de grond claimen met hekken en de enorme bloemenkwekerijen die veel plek innemen. Hier zitten Nederlanders achter, dat kan niet missen. En zo’n voetbalvlag verraad dat ook. Bij het fluoriserende groene kratermeer, wat vandaag zwart was overigens, was behoorlijk wat wild te zien wat opschrok van zo’n late bezoeker. En ik had al zoveel vogels gezien op deze wat druilerige dag.
